I took some pictures of the entrance for those who have not been there before, so you can see how it's set up.

This picture is the tents for the first entrance. Bag check. They have to check your bag, purse, and backpacks. When you get to the table you have to take your purse or bag off your shoulder, open it, and place it on the table for them to quickly look in it. Those same tents are the exit and stroller drop off. It says above the tables Exit and Entrance.
When you get to the first entrance in the morning there is always a long line for the bag check. During the day when you arrive it's not as long, but usually you have to wait a little.
I took these pictures before they got the security detectors. They are on each side and randomly you get picked to walk through.
For the bag check they are just checking for harmful things to make sure Disneyland stays a safe and magical place. If you are planning on bringing your selfie stick... leave that at your hotel. You can't bring that into Disneyland. There are so many people walking around ~ I can't image how annoying it would be if those were allowed in the park. Disneyland knows what they are doing. ;)
This is where you can buy your tickets. You can buy your tickets online on the Disneyland website or from your Disney Travel Agent to avoid theses lines. These ticket booths are between the two parks after the bag check.
When you are headed towards the two parks, Disneyland and California Adventures you first have to get in line for the bag check. Everyone that is new to Disneyland gets confused because they don't know what line to go in. In the morning there is two huge lines that go off into many different lines later.
People think that they have to be in the right line for Disneyland (if you enter from the entrance on the other side of Downtown Disney) and they think they need to be in the left line for California Adventures.
It actually does't matter which line you get in. Just go in which ever one you think looks faster. They both get you into the main entrance between the two parks, then you go to Disneyland or California Adventures.
Just for fun look for the Walt Disney star before you walk towards Disneyland. It right under the big blue Disneyland sign ~ it's the one from the first picture in this post.
